I have to start out by saying that I am in complete “awe” at how viral marketing, social networking and micro-blogging in tandem with specific search criteria of finding and developing your own niche markets can help your business grow exponentially!

Actually, I cringe and laugh as I think back to the days of floppy disks, DOS and large mainframes on dial-up.. then low and behold ‘Compuserve’ arrived online in the UK and from there ICQ captured my attention for online networking with people from all over the world and that was pretty awesome…those days I thought wow, from 10-10 till we do it again CB radio technology to now chatting online with ICQ globally, this was a world from a sci-fi movie!

Surfing the net quickly became a compulsive habit and networking with people from around the world was new….and very exciting!  There was also a great comfort that this could be achieved in the comfort of your own home after logging into your favorite messenger…Star Trek Enterprise was in your front room! I can only say that as I age as gracefully as possible, the net seems to become more smooth than John Travolta was on that bright lit neon dance floor in Saturday Night Fever…. now we have Mac Fever and internet PDA surfing technology that keeps on getting more advanced.

This is duly noted when one looks at micro-blogging sites like Twitter which relish in unprecedented growth.  You see think about today’s busy executive.  I have several that pop right into my thoughts and one in particular runs a very successful local SEO/Web firm and he is very ‘savvy’ on the industry changes but yet after launching a blog a couple of years ago it has deprecated to a family album/diary and he even admits to the fact that 140 character announcements on Twitter are far easier to achieve than cumbersome “fresh content” of 400-800 words for a blogging article!

So for those that are time restrained or ADD, Twitter is the future!  We all recognize time management constraints but micro-blogging is one way to capture your followers attention and also have a platform that respects short messaging as a viable alternative.

But as we already know, spammers and hackers are already infiltrating these niche markets and what once was clean will be come tainted with material that one really does not want to see – well, commercially at least …..
