WHO ARE MILLENNIALS ?

Millennials are known as the Millennial Generation or Generation Y and are the demographic cohort following Generation X.

MARKETING TO MILLENNIALS

A unique generation, they are defined as individuals born between 1980 and 2000 and have been referred to as the “always connected” generation due to their close relationship with technology.

Millennials want to participate with a brand’s marketing.  They tend to strive for a healthier lifestyle and want to align themselves with an authentic cause.  For example, here a list of the current top eight successful brands that are connecting with Millennials.

#1 NIKE

Why it’s Hot:

Data shows millennials believe exercise is essential for health, while their parents only focused on diet, and Nike is the go-to brand, holding 62% of the athletic shoe market.

WHAT DOES THIS DATA TELL US ?

 Mobile is Paramount

Make sure Your websites are mobile-friendly.  Invest in an App for the IOS and Android.

Authenticity is a Must

It’s the “tech” age group and they love phones, apps and non-conventional social media as well. The older side of the millennial generation might be using Facebook, but when it comes to the younger ones, they use different channels like Snapchat. Using the newer social media sites can really help you connect with younger crowds and get them to see your content quickly. Snapchat is the latest frontier in advertising to younger people.

Original Content Marketing

BRANDING TO MILLENNIALS

Millennials generally do not like graphics on logos.  Several of the top retail brands  like Forever 21, Samsung  and other well known brands have gone minimalist.  Even Michael Kors has succumbed to removing the signatory MK logo off the majority of their bags and replacing with the text version, if at all.

DIGITAL MARKETING & ADVERTISING

 Targeted IP Advertising

Browserweb can scale your target, from select demographics, all the way down to individual IP’s or addresses. When we say we can target a specific address, we mean it. We match an IP at a 95% or greater confidence level.  What this means is that when Browserweb runs ad campaigns, we can place those adverts on 100% of the prospective client devices, that’s right, every computer or device in that business or home will show your ads to every  business or household member that is on a device.

REACHING TO MILLENNIALS VIA VIDEO MARKETING

We recently reviewed Millennial marketing for a rebranding which wished to target the age group 16-25. The video marketing case studies below show the type of viral marketing success major brands have achieved by marketing to this demographic.

EVIAN CASE STUDY

Viral video ad campaign superstars like Evian’s Baby & Me show they’ve got the power to spread marketing messages globally with a huge return on investment. This case study shows how Evian’s YouTube campaign became the most viewed online video advertisement.

Objective

Evian wanted to build on the concept of youth. Focusing on emotional benefits, Evian built its ‘Live young’ campaign with an aim to strengthen existing brand relationships, drive awareness of Evian across the world in a fun and innovative way, and use digital as the central medium.

Evian has refreshed its hugely successful ‘Evian babies’ campaign, with a new viral video that matches dancing adults to their toddler counterparts.

HEFTY CASE STUDY

If we look at Hefty’s Ultimate Cups video marketing campaigns, this is designed to show moms as youthful, hip and with a bit of fun sarcasm thrown into the mix.  The videos also make reference and use of hashtags and social media channel references like twitter.

Objective

The Hefty advertising goal appears to wish to capture the attention of the millennial audience and encourage them to re-market the brand and/or message.  In Hefty’s marketing, they target the parent(s) which is great as it means the message reaches all the key players and decision-makers.

Hefty’s new ads for partying moms: hilarious and literally “on fleek”. If you don’t speak teen or tween, you may need a dictionary—but you’ll also get to see mothers in a different role.
